The form was initially available only in Danish, and some users lacked computer access.
However, Minister for Fisheries, Hunting, Agriculture, Self-Sufficiency and Environment Peter Borg tells KNR there is no reason to worry, even though he understands why KNAPK requested a six-month extension. He explains that the deadline cannot be postponed, as it is set in the fisheries law and cannot be amended this late in the year.
KNAPK vice-chair Jens Peter Kielsen argues that the language barrier and limited access to the form make an extension necessary, but Naalakkersuisut maintains the current deadline.
Peter Borg tells KNR that fishermen will still have until the end of 2026 to complete the full registration process—only the initial application must be submitted before the end of this year. He also stresses that no one will lose their fishing licence as long as they file the registration request in time.
KNR reports that the registration form has now been translated into Greenlandic.
